[lu'ɣones ar'ɣu̯ejo], Leopoldo, argentinischer Schriftsteller, * Villa María del Río Seco (Provinz Córdoba) 13. 6. 1874, ✝ (Selbstmord) Buenos Aires 19. 2. 1938; Journalist; neben R. Darío bedeutendster Lyriker des Modernismus, verherrlichte v. a. Argentinien und seine Landschaft; wurde zum Vorbild für die späteren Ultraisten und beeinflusste auch mit fantastischen Erzählungen die weitere literarische Entwicklung Argentiniens (u. a. J. L. Borges, J. Cortázar). Lugones Argüello schrieb außerdem Romane sowie historische, philologische und politische Abhandlungen und Essays.
 
Werke: Lyrik: Las montañas del oro (1897); Los crepúscolos del jardín (1905); Lunario sentimental (1909); Odas seculares (1910); El libro de los paisajes (1917); Poemas solariegos (1928).
 
Erzählungen: La guerra gaucha (1905); Las fuerzas extrañas (1906); Cuentos fatales (1924).
 
Die Salzsäure (herausgegeben 1983; deutsche Auswahl).
 
Abhandlungen: El imperio jesuítico (1904); El payador (1916); Estudios helénicos, 4 Bände (1923-24).
